Variety Grants

Variety provides three types of grants, Emergency ResponseIndividual and Organizational, based on the following funding priorities:

Variety CARES - Life Saving
These grants are given to organizations that provide life saving health care services and include equipment, renovation and constructions costs.  Examples include equipment for Neo-Natal Intensive care units such as incubators, and costs to improve existing, or build new health care facilities such as pediatric and maternal wards that care for the province’s most vulnerable special needs babies and children.

CARES is Variety’s highest priority for funding and accounts for the largest proportion of funds disbursed annually.  Applications in this category are accepted and considered throughout our grant year.

Variety FREEDOM - Life Enhancing
These grants change a child’s life by providing aids to independence or increasing a child’s abilities through mobility equipment, ongoing therapies or assistive devices that enhance communication.  These are the “I can” grants and funds go to child development centers and other community groups that provide direct services to children and their families in the form of renovation or construction costs, equipment costs or funds to originate new programs or services.

FREEDOM is Variety’s second priority for funding that accounts for the next largest proportion of funds disbursed annually. Applications in this category are also accepted and considered throughout our grant year.

Variety FUTURE - Life Enriching
These grants help provide rewarding experiences for children through recreational, social or educational opportunities.  Organizations may receive funds to operate programs such as specialized camps that provide a typical experience for a child that would otherwise be excluded, or equipment that gives a child greater access or independence to enjoy a new and rewarding experience.  Funds in this category also contribute to special schools that can provide more robust educational experiences for children who have learning challenges.

FUTURE is Variety’s third priority and accounts for the lowest proportion of funds disbursed, however, higher priority requests take precedence and funds from this category may be redistributed.
