The 24th annual BC Bowls for Kids launched on Sunday November 15th all across BC!

BC Bowls Honourary Chair, Norm Grohmann is hosting BC Bowls for Kids for the 20th year in a row! This year he is joined by Global BC's Wesla Wong and Variety kid Janelle Milne to kick off this great event. Last Saturday (Nov 21st) was our media bowling day held at Varsity Ridge Bowling Centre in Vancouver. It was a full house and we had a great turn out of teams from Evolution 107.9, JR FM, The Peak, Global, KVOS, The Vancouver Courier and more. Ken Hayden, owner of Varsity Ridge Bowling Centre, generously catered the event with great food and drinks. The day ended with a bang as all 20 teams competed in 'Bingo Bowl' which included fast bowling in black lights and dance music to get 'bingo' for prizes. The Milne family team bowled up a storm as they won the first bingo prize!

Golden Heart Community Achievement Award Dinner

The Golden Heart Community Achievement Award Dinner was held at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver on Wednesday, November 18th, in honour of the late Peter C. Toigo Sr. The evening was a great success with over 450 guests and was a touching tribute to Peter Sr. whose memory is still clearly alive in the hearts of his loved ones. There was fantastic enertainment, delicious food and fantastic auction prizes! Guests were also able to rub shoulders with legendary hockey player, Gordie Howe! Former British Columbia Premier, Bill Vander Zalm, was the evening's auctioneer.

Some great items snagged included 2 tickets to New York City and a meet and greet with Michael Buble, dinner for eight at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver prepared by the Fairmont's Executive Chef, and a Gordie Howe autographed jersey! The evening's entertainment was provided by White Spot Executive Chef, Chuck Currie & SaxNoir and Erik Ioannidis & Tiffany Rivera.

Variety Auction and Vintage Market

The Annual Variety Auction and Vintage Market presented by Buy-Low Foods took place on Sunday 25th, October at the Westin Bayshore Vancouver.

The tickets sold out fast, with record breaking attendance. This amazing event featured over 200 silent auction items, a live auction over brunch and the Buy-Low Vintage Market - a grocery store set up in the hotel for the day, with all goods at vintage prices!

Those who attended certainly spent well - grocery carts were piled high! Variety must say a huge thank you to Buy-Low and their suppliers for their efforts around this occasion plus all the volunteers who helped in the organization beforehand and on the day. The total raised for this event was close to $90,000, an incredible amount that will help children all over BC who have special needs.
