Hannah Plumb

My special girl Hannah is growing up - she is 12 years old! This past May we had the opportunity to participate in a mother/daughter makeover day for girls with down syndrome sponsored by Variety - The Children’s Charity.

We arrived at the Blanche Macdonald Centre in Vancouver and were greeted by Variety’s warm and caring volunteers. We were escorted to the hair room and there began our transformation. Hannah had her hair curled by Jason and I had my hair straightened by Colter – we were delighted with the effect. Hannah said she looked like Hannah Montana and proceeded to tell every new friend she met over the next few hours. From there we went to the manicure room and enjoyed being pampered by Christy and Lovepreet. Hannah chose bright red and I chose bright purple – we were becoming fashionistas for sure.

Next came our lovely time with the makeup artistes – Jill and Neyly. Hannah was not too sure about having mascara put on her lashes, but decided to go for it after all. Everett the photographer was cruising between all three rooms and taking candid shots of all the moms and girls – he was fun and kind and invited us for a photo shoot upon completion of the makeover.

Hannah, the social butterfly, enjoyed asking everyone their name and definitely made a mark on the hearts of all she encountered. It was great to meet other mothers and daughters and aunties and sharing our smiles of enjoyment.

Hannah and I really enjoyed the wonderful food and beverages provided by Variety – sandwiches, fruit and a decadent cake (Hannah’s favourite). It was first-class all-around!

When it was time to say goodbye we were further blessed by receiving more treats. Hannah received a gift-bag full of lots wonderful treasures – a purse, hair bobbles, makeup, nail polish, stickers and chocolates. I received a beautiful long-stemmed red rose.

A big thank you to the warm and caring volunteers and employees of Variety and Blanche Macdonald who spoiled us royally!

With Care... Alison and Hannah Plumb
