Many many thanks to the 2800 or more volunteers who helped at the Show of Hearts Telethon on January 30-31.
The stories of the children and families were told on Global but there were stories behind-the-scenes with volunteers who return to help at the event, some of them for more than 20, 30 and 40 years! There are people like Geraldine Tucker, of Pentiction, who has been joining the gang for 40 years, or Nanaimo Radiothon Volunteer Leader Pat Cox who came for the first time – but probably not the last! Then there’s Jim Lanphier has been organizing the Boy Scout detail that looks after garbage pick-up since 1968.
Many of the volunteers come out from clubs, churches, unions and staff groups, among them the BC Bowlers, White Spot, RCMP, Firefighters, Bank of Montreal, Construction and Specialized Workers, etc.
