THE CHARMLEY FAMILY

The Charmley Family began fundraising for Variety – the Children’s Charity in 2008 when their son Xander was only four years old. It was shortly after Variety provided Xander with an insulin pump to treat his Type 1 Diabetes that Xander’s Mom, Delphine, wanted to teach her children the importance of giving back to their community. Whether it’s supporting Variety, buying a meal for someone in need or anything in between, the Charmleys know that it can take little effort to make a big difference.

For the past 12 years, the Charmleys have completed a number of fundraising initiatives for Variety raising over $5,000. First they launched “Xander’s Coin Kids” by delivering cans for coin collection to local stores and schools in their community. Next came their annual “Duck Dunk” which gives 200 lucky participants the chance to win $100 by having their rubber duck drawn from the pond. Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Charmleys will not be able to host their annual Cupcake Sale this year but that’s not discouraging them from coming up with new and innovative ways to fundraise for Variety.

Delphine has shared that she is proud to be a CLUB HEARTLY member because it feels like family to her. Whether they are at a Variety event or simply chatting with another parent on social media, CLUB HEARTLY has created a network of supportive parents who are able to share their experiences and help each other along the way. If your family is interested in joining CLUB HEARTLY or you would like to plan your own fundraiser for Variety BC, please contact Katelynn Potter at katelynn.potter@variety.bc.ca.
