A message from the Board of Directors of Variety, The Children’s Charity

Dear Variety Members,

We are looking for your assistance in what is an urgent manner … the future of Variety – the Children’s Charity. We are all so fortunate to have a strong board work closely with the CEO and staff during this pandemic to produce some impressive results. We are happy to report that despite adverse economic climate, we raised close to $7.5 million in Fiscal 2020. This is the highest dollar amount raised in more than 10 years. We are also pleased to report an F21 expense budget that is the lowest in more than 15 years.

With these extremely positive results and through the great work over the past six months, more than ever Variety is in the public eye and receiving a lot of outside interest … not only from people looking to support us as we help kids across BC but also from those who are interested in the board and how we are structured and operate. In 2018, the Board of Directors established a new strategic direction which, among other items, called for a governance review that would ensure we have a best in class governance, not for profit structure. In fact, our existing key corporate partners have been expressing a desire to see Variety move in this direction.

We will be distributing key information later this week and will hold information sessions in the coming weeks to bring you up to speed on changes the board is recommending when it comes to board governance. More than ever, with everything we are facing right now, we need your support.

We are proposing changes to our bylaws and membership structure in order to bring Variety in line with modern-day best practices of successful, modern fundraising organizations. The specific changes are explained in more detail below.
