Variety BC is pleased to announce that Dawn McKenna has joined the organization as Interim Chief Executive Officer, effective November 12, 2025, following an extensive search. Current CEO, Andrea Tang, will be taking a parental leave, during which time Dawn will lead the organization through an exciting year of growth and impact.
With over 30 years of experience across both corporate and non-profit management, Dawn brings a unique combination of strong business acumen, strategic leadership and deep compassion for the communities Variety serves. For the past 25 years, she has held Executive Director roles at leading BC organizations including the Children’s Hearing and Speech Centre of BC, the Pacific Autism Family Network and the Down Syndrome Resource Foundation; all of which are dedicated to creating brighter futures for children and families across the province.
After a full and meaningful career devoted to children’s causes, Dawn retired earlier this summer. While enjoying that new chapter, she felt compelled to explore the interim opportunity at Variety, an organization she has long respected and collaborated with throughout her career. Having partnered with Variety as both a funder and a peer organization, Dawn brings not only a wealth of leadership experience but also a genuine belief in Variety’s mission and the children and families we support.
“Variety has always been about removing barriers for BC’s children, supporting them, celebrating them, and standing alongside families when they need it most,” says Andrea Tang, CEO of Variety BC. “I’m excited to have Dawn join our incredible team and community while I spend some precious time with my own family. Her leadership and deep understanding of BC’s philanthropic landscape make her an excellent fit for this role.”
“I’ve had the privilege of working alongside Variety for many years and have seen firsthand the incredible difference this organization makes,” says Dawn McKenna. “It’s an honour to step in and support this talented and passionate team during this important time of transition. I’m excited to help carry forward the vital work that supports BC’s kids and families every day.”
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, we’re delighted to welcome Dawn to Variety,” says Sarbjit Gill, Chair of the Board. “Her extensive experience and heartfelt commitment to improving the lives of children across BC make her an ideal leader to guide the organization during Andrea’s parental leave. We wish Andrea all the best during this special time with her family and look forward to her return.”
