We are sad to share the passing of a beloved member of our Variety family, Barbara Stewart. And while our hearts are heavy, Barbara’s legacy is woven into the fabric of who we are and will continue to inspire us in the years ahead.
Barbara first made an impact with Variety as a telethon volunteer in 1972. Within 15 years, she was the first female Chief Barker (now titled President) of the Board of Directors. This is testament to Barbara’s leadership, passion and drive. She was a tireless champion of Variety children and the families who love them.
From leading fundraising programs, like the Gold Hearts Program, organizing events for Variety families, to her involvement in Variety International, Barbara’s impact spanned the globe. We are so grateful to have had her in our lives, and her memory will continue to inspire our work in the days ahead.

Our deep sympathies are with Bob and the Stewart family.
Barbara’s funeral will be held on May 4 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross, 1450 Delta Avenue followed by a Celebration of Life from 1-3 p.m. at the Burnaby Mountain Golf Course, 7600 Halifax Street.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested making a donation in tribute to Barbara:
