A transformative gift: Mearns Family Fund donates $1.46 million to Variety BC

Variety BC is honoured to announce an extraordinary $1.46 million donation from the Mearns Family Fund, to support children and families across British Columbia.

This remarkable gift has enabled 420 individual assessment grants that help children access the vital care and support that can truly change the trajectory of their lives. Early autism and psychoeducational assessments open the door to crucial therapies, funding and personalized learning supports, resources many families might otherwise wait years to receive. Gifts like this offer the strong start children need to thrive.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to the Mearns Family Fund for this extraordinary act of generosity,” says Dawn McKenna, Interim CEO of Variety BC. “This gift comes at a time when more families than ever are seeking support, and its impact will be felt across hundreds of households in British Columbia. The ability to fund 420 grants means life-changing opportunities for children who need therapies, equipment, and specialized resources that will make an immediate difference in the daily lives of the families receiving them. We are incredibly grateful to the Mearns Family Fund for helping us bring hope, dignity and possibility to BC’s kids this season.”

“The Mearns Family Fund believes every child deserves the chance to grow, move, learn and participate fully in their world, and we are grateful that Variety was able to help bring this vision to life. It brings us great joy to know that this gift will ease the burden for so many families and help ensure that children can access the supports they need.”

Variety BC encourages the community to join the Mearns Family Fund in giving hope to BC’s children. With demand for funding at an all-time high, donor contributions are essential to ensuring every child can access the specialized supports they need.
