The application window opens October 1 for: Private Assessments, Bursaries for Tutoring, and School Grants.
Variety helps BC children with disabilities and complex health needs live without limits. With a broad spectrum of support programs, Variety meets families where they are.
Some of the many ways we provide support for BC families are through: autism and psychoeducational assessments, adaptive and mobility equipment, mental health support, specialized therapies and bursaries for tutoring.
For some grants, applications are open year-round. For others, they are open during a specific timeframe to make sure BC Children receive help at the right time. For families who meet the eligibility requirements, these are the grants you can apply for starting October 1, 2026!
1. Private Assessments
Opens: Oct 1, 2026
Closes: Feb 28, 2027
Private Assessments help families find answers and unlimit their child’s potential. Autism Assessments involve a comprehensive evaluation by a qualified specialist that uses standardized observation, developmental interviews, and behavioural reviews. This grant focuses on early intervention for kids ages 4 and under.
Psychoeducational Assessments help unlimit learning for students with complex needs. These assessments explore cognitive testing, academic testing, and social-emotional and behavioural functioning to provide a clear learning profile and/or specific diagnosis (such as ADHD or learning disabilities).
“The assessment provided critical information for [my son’s] home-based therapists and interventionists. It has allowed us to adjust approaches, expectations, and to build plans to help give [him] tools to manage and thrive in his daily life,” shares a mother of a Fraser Valley child who received support for a private assessment.

2. Bursaries for Tutoring

Closes: Feb 28, 2027
Tutoring provides personalized academic support that fits the student’s unique learning style and pace. It is designed to help students master challenging concepts in school and improve their learning. The right tutor can also help improve grades, boost confidence, and encourage a mindset that will help them learn and grow in many aspects of their life.
“Thanks to your generosity, Variety was able to grant [my daughter] with private, individualized tutoring sessions that accommodate to her condition,” shares a Vancouver Coastal parent. “Since then, it has greatly improved her reading, writing, talking skills and most importantly, her confidence so she is no longer scared to talk to people.”

3. School Grants
Opens: Oct 1, 2026
Closes: Oct 31, 2026
Our School Grants support a Parental Advisory Council (PAC) in their request to create more adaptable and inclusive spaces at schools.
These projects must be met with enthusiasm and support from parents and guardians at the particular school, and have included projects such as, accessible playgrounds, sensory rooms, and adaptive classroom furniture.
Joining a PAC is a fantastic way to ensure that you as a parent have a voice in your school community and can help contribute to making a positive, and enthusiastic change for current and future students.
“Inclusion is a huge part of our PAC,” shares a PAC member from a school on Vancouver Island. “We want our whole school to be welcoming, inviting, inclusive. We want everyone to feel at home there and we want to make things as barrier-free as possible.”
