Monthly donations are crucial for kids to grow so they will never see a break in funding

Suzhi has been diagnosed with autism, ADHD and developmental delay. When she was 3 years old, her parents realized that she was unable to express herself and she did not make any eye contact with others. As she grew up, Suzhi’s verbal communication was quite limited for her age and she at times became quite difficult when in public settings.

When Suzhi turned 10, her family moved from Quebec to British Columbia. It was at that time that her family heard about Variety through their social worker. Thanks to our supporters, Variety was able to provide Suzhi with Occupational Therapy and Speech & Language Therapy.

Thanks to the therapies she received, Suzhi can now communicate effectively using simple phrases to express her needs and wants. As she nears her fifteenth birthday, she continues to enjoy attending her therapy sessions which are not only helping at home but also at school as she now has the tools to build close friendships with her classmates.

“There are different kinds of people who need help in this world but I am especially grateful that Variety is always here to help families who have a child with complex health needs. The support my family receives from Variety is tremendous thanks to donors like you. These expensive therapy sessions cost us almost $500 a month. We cannot afford it and without Variety’s help these past five years, Suzhi wouldn’t have been able to make this progress. Your caring, understanding and being inclusive to children with special needs is truly appreciated”.

– Li Ming Xie, Suzhi’s Mom & Variety Supporter since 2022
