KID COUNT: 889

Thank you BC for helping us reach our goal!

Because of your generosity throughout Variety Week we’ll be able to help 889 kids! Together we can continue to be there for BC’s kids with special needs. If you haven’t yet donated, there’s still time.

Variety Week is back … and for its seventh year!

We hope you’ll tune in to Global BC’s newscasts from October 17 to 21 when all week long, you’ll get to meet some of the amazing kids whose lives you’ve impacted since our Variety Show of Hearts Telethon.

Kids like 6-year-old Daemon from Kamloops who received speech therapy, 10-year-old Zahid from Surrey who received an adaptive bike, 12-year-old Kaitlyn from Campbell River who received a private autism assessment, 13-year-old Ana from Vancouver who received counselling and physiotherapy & 14-year-old Emerson who received a FreeWheel attachment for her wheelchair.

Additional highlights will include an exclusive “Variety Playdate” series featuring some of our Variety families. We’ll also be partnering with organizations & family foundations throughout the week so that when you donate, you’ll be making TWICE the impact! So be sure to join us for an action-packed week of heart-warming stories and maybe even a few surprises when Variety Week launches on Monday’s Global News Morning.

Meet Jasper

Jasper is an eight-year-old boy from Dawson Creek who has been diagnosed with Autism. He’s currently in Grade 3 and thankfully, he’s been receiving extra help so that he can be as successful as possible at school. But despite this additional assistance, last year he was sent home a number of times due to disruptive behaviour.

That’s when Jasper’s mom, Christine consulted with their pediatrician and the school. Together they determined that Jasper needed a psychoeducational assessment to help identify the different areas of learning he was struggling with and what was causing the frustration and outbursts in class.

Variety Schools Grant Program

Because of your support, Variety has been able to launch the Variety Schools Grant Program. The one-of-a-kind program has been designed to help ensure schools from across the province are accessible, inclusive and safe for everyone! Variety will work with schools to bring a chosen project to life even faster by matching funds up to $10,000. Some of the projects that the Variety Schools Grant Program will be funding include wheelchair-accessible playgrounds, sensory paths & rooms and closed captioning technologies. During Variety Week, you’ll get to see the story of one school who’s already participating in the Variety Schools Grant Program!
